The Ortler is the highest mountain in South Tyrol, which is just under 4000 metres! This tour is only slightly different from the normal route, but it is a wonderful tour, as the back ridge is on the east side of the Ortler. The normal route is used for the descent.
day 1
Individual arrival. There are two options for the ascent to the Hintergrathütte (2661 m) a) first take the Langenstein lift (330 m - time 1 h) or b) on foot from Sulden (750 m - time 2.5 h).
day 2
Summit ascent 1250 hm approx. 5 h. Climbing difficulty UIAA 4-; descent approx. 3 h to the Payerhütte. Descent to the valley or to the Langenstein lift (another 2.5 h, obligatory rest at the Tabaretta hut again.
